Hailing from the valleys of South Wales, political artist Tracey Moberly is co-owner of the Foundry, a bar and gallery in the vibrant area of Shoreditch in London's East End. A fervent arts practitioner she works on a variety of commissions, frequently exhibiting nationally &aqmp; internationally working in a number of different media.
Sourced by Shazia Mirza and team for her noted 'My bush makes love not war ...' graffiti in London's Hoxton when American Bush was being re elected, she was asked to work on the 'F*** Off I'm Hairy' programme to develop an inspiring arts project with a focus on hair.
Tracey an ex lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University Fine art and Interactive arts departments has literally built upon her teaching philosophy in past and present projects... 'If you can make a stitch you can knit a jumper... you can apply this method to any construction process, thus if you make a brick you can build a building...' Tracey's buildings and brickwork can be found in Manchester and Moscow see http://www.sanderswood.com.
Her first London group exhibition Art-tube 01 was poetry sculpted into brick titled 'We breath each others breathe, Inhale the dust of each others flesh in the city...' showcased at The Cafe De Paris in 2001 curated by Gordon McHarg. Other artists and designers included Damien Hirst, Yoko Ono, Vivienne Westwood. Using any and all materials available to her she challenges all areas of our society making strong political and social statements through her artworks. Tracey is an avid thread spinner, making yarn from dust pockets in tube stations to hair from the human body. This collection "Her Suit & Cute" is profiled tonight in conjunction with students from the weave and fashion departments from Brighton University with thanks to Jade Mooc.
