Manchester Evening News -Tracey Sanders-Wood- A wheely great day Tuesday May 23 2000

CHILDREN from east Manchester were having fun till the cows came home! They showed off their special Friesian-print wheelie bins at the East feast festival in Phillip's Park, where the theme was reinventing the wheel. Children and young people from all over East Manchester were on the move, using their wheelchairs, roller skates, bikes and even shopping trolleys full of flowers to celebrate the theme. Tracey Sanders-Wood, Jill Turner and other artists worked with community groups to produce the vivid artwork that kept the crowds enthralled. Tracey said: "People were really partying away. It was brilliant and there was a massive turnout. "We hope it will grow bigger and bigger each year." She explained that the cow theme which got the kids laughing was developed by a group at the John Gilmore Centre in Openshaw. Cilla Baynes and Tracey Sanders-Wood of Community Arts North West, which organised the event with the East Manchester Community Forum, said: "We thought it looked fantastic. We were trying to highlight the energies, efforts and talents of young people in the area. "There was a great community feel and we were really pleased at the number of people who came."
